My name is Anthony Urban, I am Roman Catholic seminarian. I am studying at St. John Vianney Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. I am a Philosophy major and a Catholic studies minor. I am originally from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and the diocese I am studying for is the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls. I am currently a junior and I am 21 years old. I am getting geared up for moving back into the seminary in about a week and a half. Please pray for the new men who will be coming soon, they need it. I will be leading the men from my diocese this semester. I will be the 'liason' for them and the diocese. I am also head sacristan which means I'm in charge of preparing everything for Mass, making sure everything goes right and taking care of the chapel. I enjoy doing this type of work because you see a different side of the priests. It will be a different kind of year, rather semester. Each year men from the seminary are able to study abroad in Rome through the Catholic Studies department. There are seven men going this fall and they begin with a pilgramige in Spain to the tomb of St. James the Apostle. This coming semester I will be taking my last Latin class, metaphysics, modern philosophy, and a history course. I look forward to these classes and the challenges they bring. Continue to pray for the WYD pilgrims as they finish their time in Europe. The vigil was so cool and Mass was amazing, even after being poured on at five in the morning after about three hours of sleep. Please pray for their safe return.
What a beautiful day. Great weather and an awesome liturgy this evening at our Cathedral. I went to my first High Mass and it was very beautiful. The Mass was chanted and there was very simple but amazing music as well. 4 people were enrolled in the scapular and there was also veneration of a relic of Our Lady's holy veil. Not too much can beat that.
Over the past few months I have not been posting too often. The reason for this is I was on a Totus Tuus (totally yours) team. What we did was travel to different parishes throughout the diocese and put on a week of faith, fun, and fellowship. We spent the mornings with 1-6 graders and the evenings with 7-12 graders. Both groups had some challenges but the joy of passing on the faith beats out the challenges. As I said in earlier posts I will post pictures as soon as I have a better internet connection. Mary, assumed into heaven, pray for us.
In my down time these past few days I have: gone rollerblading, gotten a cell phone, and have watched way too much tv. Tomorrow the plan is confession and adoration for a while and I'll probably go rollerblading again. It's amazing how much weight you can put on in just being home for a few days. Gotta start eating healthy and working out again. God bless
Wow, it's been a long time since I've had the chance to blog. I am officially done with Totus Tuus and will be posting pictures once I get to school because of faster internet and so on. In the next few weeks I will be finishing up some books and studying some Latin. I have a decent schedule this coming semester and am very happy with teachers. I also got back from our annual seminarian retreat today. The retreat was conducted at Broomtree retreat center and the retreat master was Fr. John Sistare. He was in my vocation directors class at the NAC in Rome and is an associate pastor in Rhode Island. I will post more tomorrow, I need to unpack and get some other stuff done. God bless.
